Takács-Novák K.,
Bárdos V.: Medicinal
chemistry overview of long-acting bronchodilators used in the treatment of COPD

In this
paper we overviewed the chemical structure and physico-chemical properties of
novel LAMA and LABA drugs used in COPD. We discussed how the new structures
modify the previously established structure-activity-relationships. In both
pharmacological classes the achieved better pharmacokinetics of new drugs can
be well explained with their different physico-chemical properties (ionization,
lipophilicity and permeability). With this article we would like to strengthen
the chemical fundaments of the pharmacist’s knowledge about drugs

Tábi, T.: Efficient and safe use of non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs

Non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) are the most frequently used analgesic agents and several ones available in over-the-counter manner. As their side effects are commonly contribute to health issues community pharmacists have considerable responsibility to facilitate their safe use by patent education and selecting the most appropriate and safest preparations.

The analgesic effect of NSAIDs is threshold effect that plateaus at a relatively low plasma level without further increase at higher concentrations. On the other hand, the risk of their side effects is clearly enhanced by increasing their dose. Low dose preparations thus can be similarly effective and better tolerated and their use is generally recommended.

In addition to the well-known gastrointestinal toxicity of NSAIDs, the increased cardiovascular risk, especially during their long-term use, gains more and more interest. The side effect profile of the individual drugs can differ significantly thus choosing the most appropriate drug for each patient is the responsibility of the healthcare professionals.

Gampel Zs., Takácsi-Nagy A.: Formulation and technological examination of anti-inflammatory semi-solid preparations containing lavender essential oil

Recently, the application of natural and plant-derived pharmaceutical products has become widespread. It can even be said that it created a new trend. The vast majority of patients or customers visiting a pharmacy primarily seek such formulations in favor of self-care. The quest for naturalness also manifests itself in the therapy of most dermatological diseases. The therapeutic and cosmetic use of essential oils is currently undergoing a renaissance, of which lavender oil is one of the most popular. In addition to the pleasant aroma of lavender essential oil, it has special attention due to its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties.

The aim of our work was to formulate an extemporaneous, semi-solid product of lavender essential oil, which, besides its favorable technological and physicochemical properties (including rheology, diffusion, spreading, wash-off resistance and pH), can effectively relieve and alleviate, or even eliminate the edema associated with acute inflammatory skin complaints.

When designing the preparation, we strived to create an easy-to-remove and fast-release gel form that could be tested in animal experiments. Based on our results, from a technological point of view, we have succeeded in producing an ideal extemporaneous semi-solid preparation which, based on the preliminary results obtained, has an anti-inflammatory effect due to the content of lavender essential oil.
