New interferon-free combinations of drugs has been licensed for the treatment of hepatitis C in the last year which provide over 90% success rate even in patients with cirrhosis or in the case of previous treatment failure. This fact makes screening more important; It should be done in the case of risk factors including healthcare workers. The pharmacists should be aware of drug-drug and drug-food-supplement interactions and should help compliance and control body weight of the patients.

Medication errors (harms caused by errors in prescribing, dispensing or taking the medication), unlike inevitable adverse drug events, are preventable. Contemporary clinical pharmacy offers a patient-focused approach to provide direct patient care services in hospital wards that promote effective, appropriate and safe medication use, including the detection and prevention of medication errors. In this paper, the outcomes of clinical pharmacists’ interventions on medication error frequency and severity are discussed. It was found that employing clinical pharmacists in the observed wards has made it possible to detect and avoid a significant number of medication errors. Also, this paper highlights the importance of a proper IT background to document and statistically analyse all data gathered relevant to patient safety and medication errors.

A balanced and varied diet is the best source of essential vitamins and minerals; however, nutrient deficiencies occur, including in populations with relatively bountiful food supplies such as in Hungary. In addition to the utility of MVMs for filling in relatively small but critical nutritional gaps, some current evidence supports benefits of long term MVM supplementation with regard to prevention of chronic diseases such as cancer or CVD, as well as some aspects of cognitive performance. Daily MVM supplement use with vitamin and mineral doses near the NRV have been reported to be extremely safe. Taking all of these into account, it appears that MVMs may be considered a true ally in the fight for a better health of the population.
